There will come a time when you may think your relationship is over. To determine if your relationship will end you need to ask why are you still together.

Some couples shouldn't be together, but they stay together. Even when the relationship makes them both miserable, they stay together. As time passes these types of relationships rarely get better, without lots of work.

When it's obvious your relationship is over, you must ask yourself, why are you still together?

How Do You Know Your Relationship Is Over?

As the bell tolls signaling the end your relationship, there will be some visible signs, if you’re looking. In some relationships those signs may be highly visible and in others more subtle. They may include lack of physical contact, bring ignored or picking fights with each other. These signs are the first clue that your relationship may be over and you’ll need to decide what you want to do about it.

Why Are You Still Together?

There’s a reason you’re still together as a couple. It can be that one of you believes the relationship is worth saving or it can be as simple as neither of you wanting to be alone. There are many couples that stay together for fear of leaving a relationship where they’re comfortable. However, comfort does not equal happiness and it definitely does not equal love. If you’re not happy and don’t feel loved in your relationship, you need to ask yourself if it’s all worth it.

Are You Both Getting Your Relationship Needs Met?

Everyone has needs. In your relationship, you may need to spend time together, have affection, compassion or intimacy or you may just need someone to talk to. Many times as relationships break down, one or both of you may not be getting your needs met. When this happens, usually there is a downward spiral as the relationship gets worse. If your relationship is over and your needs are not getting met, you need to decide if it’s time to end the relationship.

Do You Want the Relationship to End?

Many people have trouble ending relationships. Break ups are painful and you probably do your best to avoid pain. It’s up to you to determine when you’re relationship. In the end it may not even be your choice, if your partner decides to end it. When your relationship is over, but you’re still together, you’re building up a lot of resentment, anger and hatred. This is a toxic situation which will only make getting through your break up harder.

It’s your choice. If you’re asking yourself why you are still together as a couple, it’s a good sign that your relationship is over. While there are many reasons why you may want to continue your relationship, you need to start thinking about what’s really best for you and your partner. Remember, by staying in a relationship, both of you are keeping yourself from the relationships you want to be in.
